My Passions

I recently had a conversation with someone about my passions. I thought if I shared my passions with you it would give you a better understanding of who I am.

Passion One

The first passion that I have is evangelism, telling someone, anyway, anyhow about who Jesus Christ is. Evangelism is one of my Spiritual gifts so it is important that I use it. I’m a “people person” and that is one of the reasons why I love to evangelize. Also having the joy of Christ in my life, it needs to be shared. Others need to be able to experience this as well.

Passion Two

My second passion is youth ministry. This just happens to be my minor, and actually what I want to go into. I believe that students have tremendous influence and are obviously next generation’s leaders. With this being the case they need to start following Christ at the age they are currently at so they can impact the world for God. I think that it is one of my passions because it was when I was in high school that I fully gave my life to Christ. And finally, I had multiple youth pastors and mentors that had a huge impact on my life and I would love to be able to do that for someone in the future.

Passion Three

My third passion is homeless ministry. It seems to me that people that are homeless tend to be ignored. This frustrates me. Just because someone is homeless doesn’t mean they aren’t a person. It doesn’t take much to smile at a homeless person or even talk to them. God can use you even more than you know. I love hanging out with those who are homeless. Every needs a listening ear sometimes, even them.

Passion Four

My final passion that I will talk about is community. I think it’s essential for believes to live in community and go through life together. We all can use the support and lean on each other’s strengths. God gave us the church for a reason, why not use it?

Where is your faith?

There were also other boats with him. ³⁷ A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. ³⁸ Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

³⁹ He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

⁴⁰ He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

⁴¹ They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” -Mark 4:35-41

As I mentioned in my last post finals week is upon me. This also means grades for the semester will be posted next week. Now I’m not the most academically sound student out there (my brother and sister got the brains), so this makes me nervous. I also have to obtain a certain gpa to receive a scholarship that would help me greatly.

This particular passage has been on my mind this past month, and especially this week.

What does God have to do for me to put my full trust in Him? Has He failed me before? Do I think my struggles (right now for me it’s grades) are too big for Him to handle?

The truth is He has provided for me in the past. Why would He stop now? He has led me into the light when my struggles had taken me into utter darkness. He has been reminding me this week to trust in Him. He will take care of everything. If I get good grades or if I get bad grades, He is still God and He is in control. None of my circumstances will ever change that.

So I want you to think about you aren’t trusting God with. I also what makes you think that this time God will fail you. Because when you stop and think about it, there is no reason and no way that He would ever fail you.

What is this rest and where can I find it?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28

It’s that time of the year, finals week. This marks the end of the semester. It could not come any sooner. I’m worn out and stress is at the highest level. It probably doesn’t help that I’m writing this post instead of studying for my finals. I’m ready to go home, relax and spend time with my family.

This verse gives me a lot of comfort, especially this week. Comfort knowing that I can give my burdens to Christ. Comfort that I know I don’t have to carry these burdens on my own. All I’m looking for is rest and just a little bit of time where I can just forget about school and the cares of this world.

I also find the word “all” very interesting. In this verse Jesus isn’t limiting who He is giving rest to. “All you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” It doesn’t matter what kind of lifestyle you are living, if you come to Christ He will give you rest.

What comes with this rest is a peace that transcends all understanding. When I think of this peace I just imagine having no worries at all. This peace can be so freeing. It is something that I strive to experience.

Think about what is wearing you out and stressing you out. Bring it to the feet of Jesus today. Release it and experience the rest that only He can give.

Why should you follow this blog?

Why would someone want to follow someone’s blog about what God is teaching them? What if this person is only in college? What can I learn from them? Why would I follow someone’s blog if they have crappy grammar? Why would I waste my time?

Those are all very legitimate questions. The reason why I made this blog is to share with you what God is putting on my heart. I feel like this also challenges me to get into God’s Word more and to read it on a deeper level. I have no idea if this blog will challenge you, convict, or not even relate to you. This is what I feel called to do and I believe God will use this, even if it is just to impact one person.

Please share this blog with others. My goal is to post multiple times throughout the week. Feel free to comment on what you think about the posts. I don’t have all the answers and I enjoy hearing what stands out to people in scripture.

About my grammar, I apologize in advance. It has never been my strong suit.
